Union Dues

Hi Everyone,
On your November 4th payslip, if eligible, you should see that the local has now completed the union dues payback. This will have been the case for all currently-employed CUPE staff that had dues incorrectly drawn between May 2015 and December 2021 from paid out overtime, paid out stat premium pay, standby, shift differential, and in lieu pay.
Former staff (whether you retired, quit, or were terminated in any other way) should contact a member of the executive to coordinate the payback of any dues they may be owed.

A Message From CUPE 825 Regarding COVID-19

The safety of CUPE 825 members, their families and colleagues are of paramount importance. As you are aware the World Health Organization declared the novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19, a global pandemic. CUPE 825 Executive members have been advocating, behind the scenes, with the employer to ensure that your rights and benefits are protected.

We recognize this is causing great concern for our members, including many of whom are on the front lines providing services within Port Moody. The public services that we provide are the backbone of a safe and healthy community and are never more important than in the face of a crisis. We want to acknowledge that work today as you help your communities navigate this new crisis, while dealing with your own challenges and family responsibilities.

It is important that our members know that their union will be there for them throughout this crisis. As you may have noted some municipalities have elected to close some facilities. In the coming weeks, our members may face closures, cancellations and quarantines that impact their work and their families. As always, CUPE Executive are available to help ensure our members’ rights and benefits are fully protected. The work of our union continues, and COVID-19 does nothing to change that.

If you have an issue or an underlying health concern and do not want to discuss it with the employer, please know that CUPE 825 Executive Members are available to advocate on your behalf. Questions or concerns can be forwarded to the CUPE 825 Executive email address enquiries@cupe825.ca, or please contact a Union Shop Steward for support.

Also, please recall that as of Tuesday, March 17, 2020, the City of Port Moody is closing the following civic facilities: Port Moody Recreation Complex, Kyle Centre, Glenayre Community Centre, Heritage Mountain Community Centre; Old Orchard Hall, and the Port Moody Public Library. Additionally, the employer has cancelled all City-organized events as well as community-organized events held on City property with more than 50 people until further notice. At this point, City Hall is remaining open, although we are awaiting further communication from the employer as it relates to possible telecommuting options and clarifications relating to COVID 19 policy.

As this is an evolving crisis, CUPE 825 will continue to monitor the situation, and will be evaluating working conditions in order to support our members.

In solidarity,

Your CUPE 825 Executive: Joshua, Natalie, Davor, Karla, Jenna, Kathy, Leanne, Steve, Keegan and Christine

Saturday, September 22nd, CUPE 825 took part in CUPE Gives Back at Rocky Point Park, which saw several locals coming together to give back to the community by hosting games in the park as well as offering up hot dogs, veggie dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, and tons of other snacks. Alongside CUPE 825 were our fellow tri-cities locals 386, 498, 561, and 1936. It was an excellent opportunity to get together with fellow CUPE members that work in and around our city to build working relationships as well as friendships, while engaging with the community. Any donations collected and any extra food left over after the event was donated to share; we also thank CUPE BC for the use of their events trailer. We appreciate everyone who came out to volunteer their time to help out, as well as those of you who visited us to get a hot dog or snack!
